At Altered Reality, we want to remind you to take some time to relax. We all have our bad days, or sometimes weeks - making it easy to forget to prioritize our health as well. Just remember that you have a lifetime to solve any obstacles that may come your way, but you need to make time for the things that make you happy. Take this as a sign to put aside a couple of minutes and give yourself a quick break.

Palo Santo, which is Spanish for “Holy Wood”, is found in the tropical forests of South America and is used for incense, aromatic oil and indigenous medicine. It is burned for its energetically cleansing and healing properties. Traditionally, Palo Santo is used as a natural remedy for colds and flus, but it is also known to relieve asthma, headaches, anxiety, depression and reduce inflammation.

The Uses Of Palo Santo Are Almost Endless

Use a candle to ignite the stick of palo santo by holding it at a 45-degree angle and pointing the tip down towards the flame. Allow the stick to burn for 30 seconds then blow it out to reveal a stream of smoke. Feel free to hold it in your hand or place it on an incense holder. Be sure to place the stick in a fireproof bowl after use to ensure that you are safe and sound.

Cleansing

Similar to popular smudge sticks such as sage and lavender, palo santo can be used for spiritual purification and cleansing. Burn the palo santo wood stick to clear all negative energy and restore tranquility. This creates a pleasant and fresh smoke that also keeps away mosquitos and other insects.

Relaxing

Burning a stick of palo santo before meditation allows individuals to get relaxed and connected. The lovely earthy, sweet and citrus aroma is soothing.

Healing

Burning palo santo sticks welcomes creativity, love and good fortune into your environment by promoting feelings of positivity. Palo santo tea can be made by simmering the wood in hot water and adding honey or Stevia as a sweetener. Shave off thin pieces of wood and place one teaspoon of shavings into 1-2 cups of hot water. Steep the tea for roughly 10 minutes depending on how strong you like it, then strain. Add sweetener if needed! This is said to relieve symptoms of depression, stress, anxiety and emotional pain.
